When things are this dry, controlled burns can escape, but we had good fortune combined with expertise from the folks at Earthview Environmental for a successful prairie remnant and first-time woodland burn this week.

They set just under 10 acres on fire, clearing out dead woody invasives, opening up the ground under some large oaks (all that remained were a lot of greening up multiflora rose and gooseberries – a project to tackle before everything else grows back).
