Winter thaw

Two nights ago the coyotes were howling and barking in the big ravine, sounding like they were fighting over something very big and tasty. Yesterday it was the wind that howled all around the house at 40 miles per hour. But by today the snow had faded away. While the entire Northeast is digging out from a record snowfall, here in Iowa we’re back to brown. Jackson is hanging out in the yard while the guineas peck away at the bare grass. The experts are saying it would take 8 feet of snow to make up for the drought this summer, but we’ve only had a few inches so far. The good news is that snow has fallen north of us which should feed some of our rivers and streams. This is climate change folks.
