This joint is jumpin’! Scattergood students and two brave teachers are camped out at our riverside campground and have broken in the fire pit and stumps we set up with the help of previous WWOOFers like Danielle, Jodie and Jesse.
The shiitakes are finally fruiting. Only two logs out of eight but we think with the rains forecast we’ll have more coming soon.
Our current WWOOFer Joakim got some beautiful photos and some video of this beaver in the river in front of our place.
Paul’s planting blueberries in a new bed. Our permaculture bed from last weekend is secured from deer (for the moment), and the Scattergood students will be planting “mushroom burritos” and extending our sheet mulching today. One crew will also be walking some parts of the property to nail some bull and musk thistle that is emerging. This assault takes place with shovels digging it up, slicing off the tap root and turning the thistle head over onto the root. This probably won’t kill it, but we hope it’ll slow it down long enough for other species to get half a chance.
And our friends Toni and Nuno are coming from Canada on their way to South Carolina to find a new home there.
Good friends, new friends, great wildlife, garlic, strawberries, blood root and may apples all pushing up and out. Finally – Spring has sprung!
