The Cedar River is flooding again. Here’s how it looked here yesterday. That’s Jackson on the right, in what used to be the ditch between our two fields.
We have nothing to lose from the flood, but we feel for the folks who do. Our neighbors Margaret, Dan and Nate are “flooded in” using canoes to travel to a vehicle they’ve smartly parked beyond the low ground on their property.
Iowa City is bustling with flood prep work, with the United Way is coordinating volunteers. You can go to their site for more information.
The crazy weather caused in part by climate change, development along rivers that speeds their flow, the lack of planning that works with nature instead of against it…when will we all learn that it’s time to take a new approach to living on this earth?
